A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has granted a civic group, the Media Rights Agenda (MRA) leave to proceed with its Freedom of Information (FOI) suit against the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for failure to provide it with the information it requested. NBC had refused to disclose details of payments of licence fees by broadcasting stations and platforms operating in Nigeria and the amounts owed the commission by stations as licence fees.

Media Rights Agenda on Monday disclosed that it has dragged National Broadcasting Commission to court over its failure to disclose the total amount paid by stations to renew their licences in Nigeria. Recall that a Federal High Court in Lagos State has issued an order stopping President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and the National Broadcasting Commission from shutting down 53 broadcast stations in the country.
