Ellis and John Caldwell - Catrine show

Can you tell us a bit about yourselves?
Ellis: My name is Ellis and I live at Ladyyard Farm, Mauchline, with my Dad, Stuart, Mum Fiona and little brother, Ellis. We milk around 200 Holstein dairy cows. I am in 3rd year at Robert Burns Academy. Unfortunately, I haven’t attended school very much in the last year due to Covid, but I have made the most of it and enjoyed my time at home helping my dad on the farm. I love working with the calves on the farm and I have led calves since I was about three years old and I could not imagine my life without cows and my pony, Breeze. I’m definitely more a cows girl than a tractors girl, when it comes to farm work.

Bottom Line: Through the Pandemic, Oh My Dog Keeps the Pups at Play

Whitney Troy-Vowell was watching through the front door of Oh My Dog in South Burlington last week as a blue pickup truck pulled into the parking lot.
"Gracie B, please," Troy-Vowell called to one of his employees. She retrieved the retriever, a golden with silky hair and a jolly disposition, from the play yard in the back of the building on Lime Rock Road.
It was the busy time, about 5:30 p.m., when a steady stream of clients arrived to fetch their pups after a day of play, naps and loving attention from the Oh My Dog staff. Troy-Vowell manned the front of the house like a multitasking maître d', stepping outside to chat with his customers and ask after their well-being.

'Phenomenal': $2.1M worth of cattle sold at CQLX sale

A phenomenal $2.1m was grossed at the February All Breeds Sale held this week at the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange.
This was a strong increase on the $1.3m at last yearâs sale.
Held from Monday to Tuesday, the two-day sale had 13 breeds and composites on offer.
The event set a positive tone for 2021âs stud-selling season as the auction had an 85 per cent clearance rate and two bulls more than doubled last yearâs top price of $16,000 to reach more than $39,000.
Spirited bidding for females was also a dominant trend at the sale, which helped lift the average price for the 21 Brahmans processed to $5810, which is $2000 higher compared to last yearâs total of $3500.
