The Biden administration is expected to announce a bipartisan infrastructure law funding that will make public transportation rail stations accessible for all.
Last week, SEPTA’s Board approved an amended Capital Budget for the current fiscal year to add approximately $95 million in funding that has been made available through the recently enacted federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
Sen. Tammy Duckworth helped secure $1.75 billion in the $1 trillion infrastructure plan for accessible public transit, a move that could accelerate the CTA's push to upgrade the 42 'L' stations that aren't fully accessible.
It’s been thirty-one years since the ADA was passed, and now we’re finally getting infrastructure funding that will make public transportation more accessible.
