Congressional democrats tried to go after these so-called legacy admissions or take some schools that are acting on their own. a fairly elite liberal arts college, wesleyan, has decided to take action. they say their longstanding practice of favoring alumni had become a sign of unfairness to the outside world. and in a time of very divided politics, it s interesting to see where the public stands. the vast majority of americans do not think that of all the other benefits harvard families get, that they should also get a leg up in admissions for students who i guess otherwise might not get in without one more harvard elite insider boost. i m joined by the executive director of lawyers for civil rights which leads the group leading the push to abolish that policy at harvard. ....

Action. the beneficiaries of it have largely been white students. i think schools would argue and i m going to play devil s advocate here in seeking the kind of relationship with their alumni, they generate wealth that they re then able to redistribute to students who don t have a financial connection to the school and that has major benefits downs line in terms of diversifying their class. and harvard is going to have to show that it outweighs the discriminatory impact it may have. i think ultimately what we ll see is some kind of resolution between the biden administration and the schools and these organizations that can come together and come up with something that is a compromise, that provides more fairness, provides more opportunity in the face of what has been an ....
