Global pay-TV revs to take a tumble of $30BN by 2026

More bad news for the worldwide pay-TV industry has emerged from Digital TV Research which is forecasting that revenues in the sector in the key territories are to track down markedly over the next five years.
The Global Pay TV Revenue Forecasts report calculates that not only did global pay-TV revenues for 138 countries peak in 2016 at $201 billion but that are also set to decline in 77 of the territories between 2020 and 2026. Despite the number of pay-TV subscribers rising by 15 million, total market revenues are forecast to fall to $143 billion in 2026 from $173 billion in 2020.
The US is set to provide the pay-TV industry with the most dramatic fall by just under $23 billion. The study noted that US pay-TV revenues peaked at $104 billion in 2015 and that its total will drop from $80 billion in 2020 to $57 billion in 2026. The US will account for 40% of global revenues by 2026, down from 52% in 2015. ....

Openreach continues digital revolution with plans to switch off analogue services in a further 77 locations

BT’s broadband provision division Openreach has announced a further 77 exchange locations, covering around 700,000 homes and businesses, where it plans to stop selling copper-based services in a year s time.
The move forms part of Openreach s programme to upgrade the UK’s analogue phone network to new digital products.
The 77 exhacnges are loacted in areas where Openreach has been building its new full fibre broadband infrastructure, and the company says it will be working closely with communications providers to upgrade their customers onto the new network, which can deliver a variety digital services over the top, in particular video.
The end of copper sales will come into effect on 29 April 2022 and by this time the total number of exchange locations where Openreach plans to stop selling copper-based services will be 297, covering a total of 2.9 million premises. Asia Pacific set for 630MN pay-TV subs by 2026

A study from Digital TV Research is forecasting that unlike in other key markets such as Europe and North America, Asia Pacific’s pay-TV arena will display steady growth over the next five years, increasing from 609 million at the end of 2020 to 630 million subscribers by 2026.
The Asia Pacific OTT TV and Video Forecasts study observed that six countries will lose pay-TV subscribers between 2020 and 2026. Most will be developed countries, but China is also included with the pay-TV market in the mega-territory projected to fall by 10 million subscribers. This said Digital TV Research was a product of cord-cutting, but represents only a 3% decline to 318 million. ....
