MUNCIE, Ind. â More than most, Anna Shoemaker, 101, has adapted to changes brought on by national turmoil. Growing up on a farm, the Dunkirk native survived the Dust Bowl and dozens of other widespread natural disasters. She lived through the Great Depression and witnessed the escalation of World War II, a conflict that would take the life of one of her brothers.
