The city of Amarillo will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday as a Tree City USA member after being recognized for its commitment to creating green spaces.

The organizations will give away 100 trees provided by the Apache Tree Grant Program.

AGN Media Officials with the city of Amarillo's Parks and Recreation department, along with four neighborhood planning groups through the city, started distribution of 6,000 bare root seedling trees to the community Friday at John Stiff Park. According to a news release, the department is partnering with the North Heights, Eastridge, Barrio and San Jacinto advisory boards for the free distribution.
