That the mayor took within his jurisdiction the board of health took, and it s a reasonable step. it will make new yorkers healthier, and i don t see any reason why a judge should get involved at all. after all, he has gotten calorie count when you go to the restaurant, which he had to fight for two years. that s why i say, he s a formidable enemy. he s banned smoking which now is being done around the world. so why not? this is extreme. look at what this mayor has done. you just named illustrated his track record. and now he s going to ban sugary drinks. what about all the other sugary foods that are out there? talk about a slippery slope argument. it just makes no sense. and then what the judge did, which was absolutely right, it s a long decision, but at the end of the day, he came out with the right conclusion, and thank goodness for common sense in new york because you can have two sodas. there are other drinks. i could drink two beers instead of two sodas. which would you ....

Obama convened a meeting with the congressional leaders of both parties to try to stop it, to try to stop the $85 billion worth of cuts from going into effect. he said the cuts would hurt the economy and cost people their jobs. he called the cuts dumb and arbitrary. and pretty much right after he got done calling them dumb and arbitrary, he had to go sign this presidential order ordering them into law. president obama was not saying these cuts are dumb and arbitrary because he does not like them. these cuts are dumb and arbitrary by design. both sides agree they are dumb and arbitrary, the whole point of the sequester is that they would be dumb and arbitrary. the cuts are dumb and arbitrary and purposely hurtful in a bipartisan fashion. because the whole design was about it being equally unpalatable to both parties. that was the whole idea, right? that was on purpose. democrats were supposed to hate the sequester, because of the dumb and arbitrary cuts to stuff ....

Very much from the white house. joining me now for this discussion, reuters political reporter andy sullivan and staff writer for the hill elyse freeback. nice to see you both. thank you for being here. hi, alex, thanks. andy, i ll begin with you. we saw lawmakers on all the sunday talk shows, pretty much the same arguments. the senate is set to reconvene late on monday. the house comes back tuesday. what s going to happen? well, as i think you heard speaker boehner say today, they re moving on to the next fight which is trying to avoid a government shutdown. and that means that these sequester cuts will probably be baked in. they might try to change them in a way to make them a little less arbitrary, to make the damage a little less. but you re still going to be hurting the economy. we re still going to be seeing economic growth decline pretty significantly. we re still going to be seeing 700,000 to 1 million jobs left if they re kept in place. because this is the type of spen ....
