USD 475 appoints four new principals (courtesy Geary County USD 475) The USD 475 school district has appointed four new principals today. Kathleen Brennan was named principal of Fort Riley Middle School, Nicole Perez was named principal of H.D. Karns Innovations Academy, Melisa Burgess was named principal of Morris Hill Elementary, and Kathy Friesen was named principal of Seitz Elementary. Brennan takes on her new role as principal after serving as vice principal of Fort Riley Middle School for three years, Perez previously served as vice principal of Arkansas City High School for three years, Burgess was an assistant principal at Fort Riley Elementary for six years, and Friesen becomes principal of Seitz Elementary School after serving as a certified reading tutor at Franklin Elementary. ....

ACHS Ag Ed Program Receives State, National Recognition Posted By: Brady Bauman January 27, 2021 The Arkansas City High School Agriculture Education program was recognized as the National Association of Agriculture Educators Outstanding Program of the Year, according to a news release from USD 470 this week. “This is a great honor that is much deserved by each of our ag teachers (Josie Reilly, Jacob Sumpter, and Kasie Bogart) and all their students who work so hard to make great things happen in the program, school, and community,” the school district stated. Wilson Appointed To Cowley College Board Chair Posted By: Brady Bauman January 22, 2021 The Cowley College Board of Trustees appointed Gary Wilson to assume the duties of Chair of the Board during Tuesday night’s meeting held in the Earle N. Wright Community Room following a tie vote and a resultant coin-flip, according to a news release from the college. Wilson was elected to serve a four-year term on the board, starting in January 2018. His current term expires in January 2022. Wilson graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1968, then continued his education at Cowley County Community College, graduating in 1970. In 1970, Gary represented Cowley County Community College and Area Vocational Technical School at the Kansas Legislature. After Cowley, Gary worked as a heavy equipment and diesel mechanic and became a certified GM technician. ....
