Cynthia Coe is deputy chief with the Special Litigation Section, Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. She specializes in conducting pattern-or-practice investigations of law enforcement agencies and negotiating and enforcing agreements to resolve those investigations under 34 U.S.C. § 12601. She has supervised and participated in numerous investigations and enforcement matters involving law enforcement agencies, including the Baltimore Police Department, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, the Ferguson Police Department, the Chicago Police Department, and the Minneapolis Police Department. Prior to joining the Civil Rights Division, Ms. Coe was a litigation partner with McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen, LLP. She clerked in federal district court for the Honorable Earl B. Five faculty joining WSU through Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas program | WSU Insider

Five new faculty members will be joining Washington State University in the fall as the inaugural cohort of the “Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas,” cluster hire program.
The program was initiated to address systemwide needs for scholarship, teaching, and outreach aimed at dismantling systemic racism and to recruit and retain a more diverse faculty and student body.
“Our hiring committees were able to recruit outstanding colleagues, and we could not be happier to have these five individuals joining us at WSU,” Provost Elizabeth Chilton said. “Their diverse areas of research, exceptional teaching records, and strong backgrounds will be extremely valuable for WSU and I’m excited to see the impact they have in our communities.” ....

The country’s insurance regulators are vowing to prioritize the monitoring of the use of consumer and non-consumer data by companies, the use of artificial intelligence, and the availability and affordability of insurance products for racial minorities.
They say they will also remain active responding to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its impact on consumers and insurance markets.
The state regulators’ organization, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), celebrating its 150th anniversary, announced its strategic priorities for 2021.
