ISLAMABAD: National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar has praised the “significant improvement” in compliance with government guidelines after the military was deployed to help with enforcement as the country’s coronavirus deaths registered a sharp uptick day-on-day and testing reduced by nearly 20 per cent.
“Significant improvement seen in SOP compliance since the stronger enforcement measures including military deployment took place. National average compliance has doubled from 34 per cent on 25th Apr to 68 per cent on 3rd May. Need to sustain and build on this compliance level especially till Eid,” the planning minister said in a tweet. ....

ISLAMABAD: National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar warned that the number of critical coronavirus patients was 57 per cent higher in the 24 hours leading to Friday than the first wave peak last year but insisted that the situation in hospitals was under control.
“Total number of critical care Covid patients on oxygen reached 5,360 yesterday (Thursday). This is 57 per cent more than the peak last June,” the planning minister said in a series of tweets as the country registered 131 fatalities and 5,112 infections in a single day. The positivity ratio was 10.41 per cent. ....

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has urged that the business community to ensure strict implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in markets and commercial areas in order to curb the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that the third wave of covid-19 has spread to a dangerous level and this situation demanded that business community should play a role for strict compliance of SOPs in business areas in order to control its further outbreak.
He said that reduction in coronavirus cases would also help the government to consider easing restrictions on businesses. He expressed these views during an online meeting with Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI). ....

ISLAMABAD: National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar has warned that the government would be left with no choice but to impose complete lockdowns in major cities if people fail to take the Covid pandemic seriously amid a third wave surge that claimed another 148 lives.
“We will have to increase the restrictions. If we do not contain the rapid spread of pandemic, we will have no option but to impose a complete lockdown in the big cities,” the Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives said after chairing a meeting of the NCOC on Wednesday. ....
