David fallow. we have a leaked screen grab that purportedly showed the flight path of airasia 8501. shows the plane ascending and losing speed. what does that tell us? it tells us that the aircraft was obviously ascending, but in that flight position going up into that altitude like that i have two questions one is it had not been authorized from the information that we have to make that climb yet. when the air traffic controller went back after clearing the airspace at 38,000 feet, went back to communicate with the aircraft it wasn t able to reach the aircraft. in that realm, i d have some questions as to why the aircraft went ahead and ascended which would indicate there was an emergency of some kind he had to respond to. if the reported air speed is correct, if i have questions about if you look at the screen grab there are some questions as to what the air speed really was. so if the air speed was as low as being reported then the ....

David, i can t read air traffic control radar but what that shows is that as that plane was ascending to 36,000 feet it was probably flying about 100 miles an hour too slowly to be at that altitude. what problems could that create if that s in fact what happened? well it s a pretty simple problem because what happens is the air over the top of the wing is what creates the lift. the speed of the air over the top of the wing. if the air is not going well over the top of the wing not going at a high enough speed there s similarly not enough lift to lift the aircraft up and that s what happens in a stall is the air is either disrupted the word you used was stall. so it could cause the plane to stall if it s fly too slowly at that altitude? a stall in this situation is much worse. in n a stall situation if your power is not on, if you pulled power back and the aircraft is angling up and it stalls that s a recoverable stall. in this situation the power was evidently on full power t ....

With that thunderstorm in some way. and we know very clearly, as we remember air france back in june of 2009 that ice, frozen particles and instruments on airplanes do not mix. this is the flight radar 24 tracking website. this is the path as the plane took off from surabaya java heading north and west towards singapore, you can see just before it lost contact with air traffic control, the altitude was at 32,000 and it was ascending according to airasia. now what we see, typically, across this part of the world is a significant amount of moisture. and the more moisture we have available, the more thunderstorms build across the region. so this is the anatomy of a thunderstorm. almost a slice or right through the middle of a thunderstorm, just to give you an idea of what kind of components are inside a thunderstorm and to give you an idea of what piloting encounter ....

There s no i don t want to say it at first but then everything s possible at the moment. yes. absolutely. and it will be interesting to see if there are witnesses and confirmed reports of people who saw something because right now all we know is that this airplane was ascending to 38,000 feet and after vectoring around a severe thunderstorm that other planes before and after encount encountered encountered, all contact with the plane was lost. we are told they do have the coordinates of the last time that they heard from this plane. and as you just said, it s believed to have disappeared between two islands. how far off the coast are these islands, yusuf? do you know? it s not that far. it s 400 kilometers between each of the kalimantan and puli ....

He was saying the plane actually requested to ascend from 32,000 feet to 38,000 feet because they were encountering i can t remember the name of the cloud but he was basically saying some cloud they were trying to first they were leaning left and then they were supposed to go they were supposed to ascend 6,000 feet from its original course. but then at that time during that time should i say surabaya lost its contact with the plane. could you just repeat what you just said about the descending ascending. ascending. okay. he was trying to ascend to yeah he was trying to ascend. he was leaning left moving towards the left of the cloud ....
