On 1 February 2021, the Burmese army (Tatmadaw) broke off its governmental cohabitation with the National League for Democracy (NLD), incarcerating its leaders, and then plunged the entire country into an atrocious asymmetric war. Two years later, it has still not succeeded in imposing its control over a large part of the territory.
