Battling cancer, Kapayan rep Lasimbang pens Kaamatan song to inspire Sabah's indigenous folk

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah s Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang is battling cancer but that has not stopped her from joining local singers and performing for the Kaamatan festivities.
Known for her decades of grassroots work with indigenous people in Sabah, Lasimbang said she wrote the lyrics for the song Sunduvan Kaamatan Aiso Vohit (Spirit of a Borderless Kaamatan) as she wants the communities to remain upbeat and stick to their goals.
Though there will be no celebrations to mark Kaamatan on May 30 and 31 this year, due to Covid-19 SOPs under the movement control order, she hoped the song will bring cheer and remind people that the Kaamatan spirit remains in the hearts of all indigenous people. ....

Cops: Probe of alleged rape by assemblyman's associate should wrap within the week

KUALA LUMPUR: The statements of fewer than 10 individuals have been recorded in connection with the rape investigation allegedly involving associates of a Selangor assemblyman.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said they expect to wrap up the investigation this week.
We are in the process of completing the investigation.
Fewer than 10 people have been called up as witnesses.
The investigation paper will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor within this week, he told a press conference at Dang Wangi police headquarters on Monday (May 24).
