Galesburg Police on Sunday, October 30th, responded to Walmart for a theft complaint. Police met with Asset Protection Employees who said a 28-year-old female employee came inside the store with a 25-year-old female and another unknown female and stole items. The incident occurred on October 1st. The three women were seen walking around the store and placing items inside the bags they brought with them. The female employee and the 25-year-old female were seen one by one walking out of the store without paying. The third female attempts to exit through the Garden Center. The female employee was seen driving her car to a back door but quickly turned around when another Walmart employee was standing near the exit. Officers viewed the incident on security video. Police then met with the female employee who said she had no knowledge of the theft. The total value of all the items taken was a little over $415. Galesburg Police on Saturday, September 17th responded to Walmart for a retail theft complaint. A 55-year-old Galesburg woman was attempting to steal nearly $900 worth of products. Galesburg Police are familiar with the female suspect: WGIL reported in early August that the same woman was arrested after she was caught stealing items from vehicles parked at St. Mary's Medical Center and at Maurice's. Asset Protection Employees were alerted to the woman after they observed her enter the store, open and drink an energy drink before walking further into the store, according to police reports. The female then filled her cart with $889 worth of goods and then head towards the exit without making any attempt to pay for the items. The woman became increasingly aggressive with police - punching an officer in the face while being detained. Officers searched the woman who was in possession of two pipes used for smoking methamphetamine, and the woman admitted to having meth on her. The w ....
Galesburg Police on Wednesday afternoon (September 7th) responded to Walmart for a recurring internal theft. Officers met with Asset Protection Employees at the store who told police an employee, 19-year-old Luke Hinderliter of Galesburg, had been caught on camera numerous times taking money out of cash registers. Police viewed on security video one incident from September 3rd where Hinderliter rang up a customer who was paying cash, did not close the drawer entirely, and then took cash from the register. A total of $1,080 was taken in eight separate incidents. Officers met with Hinderliter who admitted what he had done and that he made a mistake. Police informed Walmart staff that they could only charge Hinderliter for the most recent theft from September 3rd. The case was being forwarded to the State's Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed for the previous incidents. Galesburg Police on Monday, February 28th, responded to Walmart for a report of retail theft. Officers met with Asset Protection Employees who, over the course of several weeks, had been tracking a female suspect who had been coming into the store routinely for a scam. Walmart offers "Shop and Scan" - an app that allows customers to scan items as they place them into their cart. When the customer is done shopping, they scan a barcode off their phone at the self-checkout and pay for their items. Employees said the female would scan a less expensive item and place a more expensive item in her cart - sometimes she would scan one item and then place multiple items in her cart. Officers reviewed security video of multiple incidents involving the woman's scam, but the woman wore glasses and a face mask during the thefts. A 32-year old Galesburg woman is listed as a questionable suspect and the investigation is ongoing. ....
