Galesburg Police on Wednesday afternoon (September 7th) responded to Walmart for a recurring internal theft. Officers met with Asset Protection Employees at the store who told police an employee, 19-year-old Luke Hinderliter of Galesburg, had been caught on camera numerous times taking money out of cash registers. Police viewed on security video one incident from September 3rd where Hinderliter rang up a customer who was paying cash, did not close the drawer entirely, and then took cash from the register. A total of $1,080 was taken in eight separate incidents. Officers met with Hinderliter who admitted what he had done and that he made a mistake. Police informed Walmart staff that they could only charge Hinderliter for the most recent theft from September 3rd. The case was being forwarded to the State's Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed for the previous incidents.
