الوكالة الوطنية للإعلامNNA - Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad received Sunday Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al Sudani who began a two-day official visit to Syria.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani began on Sunday an official visit to Syria. The visit is the first by an Iraqi prime minister since 2010. It comes as Arab states rebuild ties with Damascus after years of tension. Syria suspended its membership in the Arab League in 2011 over Assad's crackdown on protests. But Assad has regained control of large areas of Syria with military and economic support from Russia and Iran. The United States, Britain and the European Union have placed senior Syrian officials and Assad's relatives on sanctions in recent months.
