Van der Waals heterostructures - Vimarsana News

Van der Waals heterostructures

When two atomically thin graphene-like materials are placed on top of each other their properties change, and a material with novel hybrid properties emerges. They are called van der Waals materials because the individual layers are attached to each other via a weak so called van der Waals interaction

"Cation-vacancy induced Li sup + /sup intercalation pseudocapacitance " by Ding Yuan, David Adekoya et al.

Abstract It is challenging to create cation vacancies in electrode materials for enhancing the performance of rechargeable lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we utilized a strong alkaline etching method to successfully create Co vacancies at the interface of atomically thin Co O /graphene@CNT heterostructure for high-energy/power lithium storage. The creation of Co-vacancies in the sample was confirmed by high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscope (HRSTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron energy loss near-edge structures (ELNES). The obtained Co O /graphe...

"Sulfur doping optimized intermediate energetics of FeCoOOH for enhance" by Ding Yuan, Yuhai Dou et al. - Vimarsana News

"Sulfur doping optimized intermediate energetics of FeCoOOH for enhance" by Ding Yuan, Yuhai Dou et al.

Abstract Transition metal sulfides have been demonstrated to be more active electrocatalysts than the corresponding (hydr)oxides for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The nature of active sites, however, remains unclear. Here, we study whether S could promote the OER activity of FeCoOOH and try to identify the catalytically active centers. Density functional theory suggests that two coordinating S could work synergistically with one adjacent Fe to optimize the electronic states of Co, resulting in decreased binding energy of OH∗ (ΔE ) while little changed ΔE , and thus significantly loweri...
