The record-breaking blazes of 2021 wildfire season resulted in a lot of widespread destruction, but AccuWeather experts reveal that the economic damage estimate is very different from that of previous years. Every year, thousands of structures are severely affected as fires engulf millions of acres, leading to damages that total billions of dollars.
When the Dixie fire sparked in Plumas County on a warm afternoon in July, few could have known that it would morph into the monster it soon became. A downed tree, a blown power line fuse and a small ring of fire were all it took to create the second-largest wildfire in California history.
The Fawn Fire, which was believed to be started by an arsonist last week in Shasta County, has reached 90% containment and evacuation orders in the area have been lifted. Meanwhile the massive Dixie Fire, already burning for two and a half months, stands at 94% containment.
Extreme drought, record heat and an abundance of fuel are a few the things that helped make the Dixie Fire one of the largest wildfires in California history.
