'Two days to forever' | How long it could take the TBI to finish its investigation

Dennis Francis said there are a number of questions they could be looking to answer.
"Was that a stolen weapon? Where did it come from? How did it get into his or her possession?" Francis said. "It's not just limited to that."
Autopsies from the medical examiner's officer are pretty standard in fatal shootings, but take time to complete.
"The idea is not how fast you do it," Francis said. "It's how well you do it and is the interest of justice served by this investigation?"
In this particular case, Francis said the most useful information will likely come from a Knoxville Police Department officer's body camera.

Pictured: Black teenager shot and killed by cops during 'struggle' in Knoxville school

Officials have revealed the identity of a teenage student who was shot dead by police in the bathroom of a Knoxville high school in Tennessee on Monday.
Anthony J. Thompson Jr., 17, was killed after police responded to a report of a person with a gun at Austin-East Magnet High School.
His identity was revealed as authorities revealed that a police officer who was seriously wounded during a 'struggle' with the student inside the high school bathroom was not shot by the student's hand gun, as was first thought.
The new report of the incident, released by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, appears to indicate that the officer was, instead, shot by police during the confrontation.

Here's why we won't see body camera footage of Austin-East shooting right away

DAG Allen responded in a press conference on Thursday.
"I understand that the community, the press, and citizens want to see the body camera video in this case. I understand as a human being," she said. "But I stand here as the elected District Attorney General whose job it is to protect the potential criminal integrity of this case."
Allen said she agreed that the community has a right to see the footage, but it's all about timing.
Right now, less than 72 hours after the shooting, the TBI is still collecting evidence and conducting interviews in this case. Releasing the video too early could taint that process and any possible criminal prosecution.
