IHG Hotels & Resorts has just opened the very first outpost in Australia under its boutique Hotel Indigo brand. Occupying the site of a former textile factory in the heart of the South Australian state capital, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets stands out for a “Raw and Refined” design ethos that pays tribute to the quirks of the surrounding neighborhood and Adelaide itself.
The 145-room property is located steps away from Adelaide Central Market, whose brick archways are mimicked in the public spaces of the hotel. Further visual interest is added through murals by well-known Australian contemporary artists such as Tristan Kerr and a rotating selection of artworks. Meanwhile, locally inspired design touches in the guest rooms and suites include copper fixtures — a nod to South Australia’s copper-mining heritage — contemporary light wood furnishings, and colorful rugs that depict the tessellated tiles often seen in traditional Adelaide homes. The annual Adelaide Festival provides inspiration for specially commissioned poster art and murals behind the king-size beds; floor-to-ceiling windows let in ample natural light and frame vistas of the city.
