Newmont begins robot truck ops at Boddington mine

Newmont has started production use of an autonomous haul truck fleet at its Boddington gold and copper mine in Western Australia.
The miner said in a statement that it had hit a milestone in the deployment “with the first production delivered”, and produced a brief video showing the driverless trucks operating in the pit.
“Achieving first production from our autonomous fleet is an important step in the full deployment of the fleet,” Newmont Australia’s regional senior vice president Alex Bates said.
“It is a testament to the enthusiasm and professionalism of our team that we have achieved this first milestone safely.” ....

China s first autonomous bus line started commercial operations in Yongchuan district of Chongqing on Monday with passengers boarding a red Baidu Robobus bus for city trips.
I did not expect the bus to run so smoothly. There was no shaking or any sudden braking, a middle-aged woman passenger told Chongqing Morning Post. The seats are very comfortable and I will certainly take the bus again.
Robobus, developed by Chinese tech giant Baidu, is a Level-4 autonomous driving bus. It is 5.9 meters long and can carry 19 passengers at a cruise speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. Level-4 autonomy means that the vehicle can drive autonomously in most conditions without a human driver. ....

China has stepped up plans to launch a domestic cotton project, forming its own national standards on cotton, according to people familiar with the matter, South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.
Zhongnong Guoji, a Beijing-based cotton vertical service provider, started the Weilai Cotton, or future cotton project, two years ago, and has made some progress since January when two organizations – the China Fashion Association and the Modern Seeds Development Fund – became involved, according to SCMP, citing Zhao Yan, one of the coordinators for the project. ....
