About 25 feet beneath the sea off Southern California’s Catalina Island, David Hornbaker had his eye on some blue-banded gobies. The mesmerizing fish have bright orange bodies with thin, electric-blue stripes, and are highly sought after by marine aquaria collectors like Hornbaker for their high resale value.
Grasping a squirt bottle, Hornbaker squeezed to release an opaque, cloudy substance over some rocks where several gobies were hiding. One darted from behind a rock and into the open, where it became incapacitated and ceased to swim. Hornbaker then gathered it into a small net and placed it in a container strapped to his side. ....

Cleanup for GOOD with Goodwill

It’s the time of year we look forward to, where not only is Goodwill focused on environmental efforts, but the world joins in to celebrate this amazing globe that we call home.
On April 22 at 10am Goodwill team members from all their retail locations and warehouses will take part in the Clean up for GOOD initiative. Each location will share the good and help clean up litter in their local neighbourhoods, across Alberta.
On top of the clean up, they will also be removing the large waste bin for good, from the Chinook Goodwill to continue towards their goal of being waste bin free at all locations to expand their sustainability efforts for recycling and repurposing waste! ....

Today, Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, announced $233,000 in federal funding for Bell Canada to bring high-speed Internet to more rural residents of the Avalon Peninsula. Bell Canada will contribute $142,500 toward this project that will connect 335 underserved households in Tors Cove and Mobile to high-speed Internet.
