Reliance Jio signs agreement with Bharti Airtel

The trading agreement is in accordance with the Spectrum Trading Guidelines issued by
the Department of Telecommunications and is subject to the requisite regulatory and
statutory approvals. The aggregate value for the right to use this spectrum is Rs. 1,497
crores, inclusive of present value of associated deferred payment liablity of Rs. 459
crores, subject to any transaction related adjustments.
With this trading of right to use spectrum, RJIL will have 2X15MHz of spectrum in the
800MHz band in Mumbai circle and 2X10MHz of spectrum in the 800MHz band in Andhra
Pradesh and Delhi circles, thereby further consolidating its spectrum footprint in these ....

TALKS between Norway’s Telenor ASA and Malaysia’s Axiata Group (pic) Bhd for a merger of their mobile telecom units have resumed, sources say.
Or as one industry player in the know puts it, “the talks never really ended” since the merger plan was aborted two years ago.

Jamaludin, Gita appointed to Axiata advisory panel


’s former president & group CEO Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim and former Minister of Trade of Indonesia, Gita Irawan Wirjawan have been appointed to the group’s recently established advisory panel.
The company said on Friday the setting up of the panel was crucial as Axiata expands operations set against the increasingly complex business and geopolitical environment.
The panel, in complementing the value, skillsets and experience of the board, will assist its directors in assessing and understanding evolving key and complex issues relating to Axiata’s operations across its geographical footprint.
“As independent industry experts recognised for their extensive experience, knowledge and achievements in industry, business and public services, Jamaludin and Gita are well placed for the Axiata board to tap on their unique strengths and contributions, ” it said. ....

QSR Brands appoints Jamaludin as chairman


With over 40 years of experience, Jamaludin’s (file pic) wealth of knowledge includes about 16 years in IT and 23 years in telecommunications, in addition to being involved in various capacities in the education sector, said QSR Brands in a statement.
KUALA LUMPUR: QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim as chairman effective today.
Prior to this new appointment, Jamaludin’s last executive position was at Axiata Group Bhd
where he retired on Dec 31,2020.
He was the managing director/president and group CEO for almost 13 years since Axiata’s inception in 2008.
Jamaludin was also the former group CEO of Maxis Communications Bhd. ....

The 5G single-entity conundrum


A SIGNIFICANT change is taking place in the Malaysian telecommunications landscape.
Last Friday, the government decided to take 5G off the backburner and bring it to the forefront. The rationale is that accelerating 5G will nudge the country quicker to its dream of becoming a high value-added economy and possibly a net exporter of homegrown technologies and digital solutions.
Hence, the government has taken the view that it needs to build the 5G infrastructure by itself to fuel the fourth industrial revolution and remain in the race against peers in technological advancement and attracting investments.
No doubt, the promise of 5G opens a new way for applications such as driverless cars, robotics, remote surgeries, virtual reality and the Internet of things, among others, that will change how people work, play and live. ....
