The Morbi bridge collapse killed 135 people in October last year. Six of the 10 people accused of culpable homicide in the case have been granted bail while three, including Jaysukh Patel, are behind bars.
The SIT report submitted before the High Court on Tuesday pinned the blame on Jaysukh Patel, the managing director of Ajanta Manufacturing Private Limited (AMPL) of the Oreva Group and then chief officer of the Morbi municipality Sandipsinh Zala.
A victim and a witness in the Morbi bridge collapse case had on July 26 made a representation complaining of SPP Sanjay Vora’s absence from 5-6 hearings during the trial.
Jaysukh Patel, who has been in jail since his arrest in January in connection with the Morbi Jhulto Pul suspension bridge collapse that killed 135 people and injured several on October 30 last year, was taken to the same hospital on April 1, too, due to high blood pressure.
Jaysukh Patel’s seven-day police custody expired today and he was produced before the court today. The police, not wanting to further question Patel, did not seek his custody.
The other nine arrested persons comprise two managers of the firm, two ticket-booking clerks, three security guards and two sub-contractors who were engaged in the repair works by Oreva Group.
As many as 135 people were killed and scores others injured when a suspension bridge collapsed in Gujarat's Morbi town on October 30 last year. Jayshukh Patel is the Managing Director of the Oreva Group that operated the Morbi suspension bridge.
