A proposed charter school in Danbury will soon have a new organization to head it up, but it still can’t open without the necessary funding in place. Meanwhile, the tuition-free Danbury Charter School still hopes to open in the fall. Critics of the school say they believe it would drain money from the city’s underfunded public schools. Others counter however, and say that the charter school would give parents an option to choose the right learning environment for their kids.

Democratic Candidate for Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves  announced an historic $125,523 first-quarter fundraising total with 445 individual contributors in the 10 weeks following his campaign announcement. Alves  has raised more than any candidate in Danbury history in a single quarter and outpaced the incumbent Republican Mayor who began fundraising for re-election 38 weeks ago in July 2022.

Aquarion is fighting back after being handed a decision that reduces many Connecticut water bills. Aquarion Water has filed an appeal of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority ruling made last month that rejected a requested rate increase by the company and instead reduced rates for customers. The appeal now comes after PURA commissioners… back on March 15th… rejected a rate hike request made by Aquarion and instead approved a plan that would reduce customers water rates by about $67 per year. A hearing in the case is now scheduled for April 25.

Bethel Public Schools will be holding the annual STEAM Expo from 6 to 8pm NEXT Wednesday, April 19th at Bethel High School. During the expo, students from kindergarten through 12th grade will showoff what they have learned and how it relates to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The expo will include many student displays, exploratory tables, presentations, and exhibits. The STEAM Expo is free and open to all. It’s one week from this Wednesday, April 19th at Bethel High School from 6 to 8pm.

The Brookfield Republican Town Committee is seeking qualified candidates to run for a long list of offices and/or commissions for the November Municipal Election. The list includes First Selectman; Selectman; Town Clerk; Treasurer; Board of Finance; Board of Education; Zoning Commission; and Board of Assessment Appeals.
