Greg Harris, high-ranking Dem best known for passing same sex marriage, announces retirement from Ill. House
Majority Leader Greg Harris (D-Chicago), the No. 2 Democrat in the Illinois House, will not run for another term in 2022, he announced Monday. Harris, who has served in the legislature for 15 years, is best known for passing Illinois’ same sex marriage law in 2013. But he’s also been one of the chief architects of the state’s budget — including during Illinois’ two-year budget impasse under Gov. Bruce Rauner — and has taken the lead on Medicaid and other healthcare reform efforts.
