Pindi Basant revelry kills boy, injures 163 The Basant festival illegally organised for the second year in a row RAWALPINDI: A 12-year-old child was killed due to electrocution caused by a kite-string while 163 others were injured on Friday as the Basant festival was illegally organised for the second year in a row. The Rescue-1122 helpline and emergency response systems at allied hospitals remained under severe pressure while patients faced difficulties due to a rush of people hurt from kite-strings, aerial firing and other accidents which occurred in the city. According to a spokesperson, 163 people were injured due to aerial firing and killer strings of kites flown during Basant celebrations. The injured also included victims who fell from rooftops or hurt during traffic accidents, while a 12-year-old child lost his life due to electrocution caused by a kite-string, he added.
Basant celebrated February 20, 2021 Rawalpindi: The skies over the cantonment board localities in Rawalpindi were dotted with kites of all shapes and sizes as the citizens violated the ban on kite flying and celebrated the festival on Thursday night and Friday. Particularly, the residents of Lal Kurti, Dehri Hasanabad, Tench Bhatta, Adra, Defense Road, Tulsa, Bakramandi, New Lalazar, Kiani Road, Dhok Syedan, Misriyal and Adiala Road celebrated the ‘Basant’. The kite flyers were also using aerial firing freely and listening songs on high volume on the occasion. On the other hand, police teams arrested 113 violators and recovered over 7,000 kites including dozens of rolls of chemical stings here on Friday.
Prayagraj: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for pilgrims, devotees and kalpwasis ahead of Basant Panchmi snan on Tuesday and the Magh Mela campus has been into a fortress with ATS and STF commandos, and personnel of para military forces also being deployed. The Basant Panchmi snan is considered a local snan and hence local residents will also be going besides pilgrims, sadhus, and kalpwasis and hence security has been beefed up in and around mela campus. ATS and STF commandos and personnel of para military forces have also been deployed to keep a strict vigil and tackle any incident.
