Kashmir Apple Rates Down By 30 Percent, Growers Seek Govt Support To Overcome Losses - Jammu Kashmir Latest News | Tourism

NEW DELHI, Nov 3: A bumper apple production in Kashmir this season has failed to cheer up growers as their produce is being sold at nearly 30 per cent lower rates than last year. Two drones overflying the IAF station at Jammu – located only 14 km away from the India Pakistan border, dropped a kilogram each of payload and flew back unscathed is not an ordinary event. One bomb landed on the administrative building, not far away from a helicopter hangar and the other exploded in the lawns. Two personnel – Arvind Singh and SK Singh survived with mild injuries. Given the crucial nature of the attack, the case was quickly handed over to NIA as NSG also joined the investigations. Police believe it was a terror attack. Delhi raised the issue at the United Nations and Pakistan rejected its involvement.

UAPA | Anti-terror law now terrorises citizens

updated: Jul 11 2021, 08:36 ist
It would seem like being a Kashmiri is a sure-fire way to get booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. There is no other way to explain the detention of Bashir Ahmad Baba. Eleven years ago, Baba, who was 33 at the time, had gone to Gujarat to attend a camp on post-cancer care, when the Gujarat Anti-terror Squad arrested him, accusing him of being a Hizbul Mujahideen “talent-hunter”.
Only last month, he was acquitted by a local court after the police had no evidence to support the charges. But life had already changed a lot for Baba — he lost his father during his decade-long struggle to prove his innocence, leaving him nursing a life-long regret. “I could not attend the last rites of my father, who died of cancer,” Baba said, having been denied bail to attend his father’s funeral.

11 years in jail, Kashmiri man returns home after acquitted of UAPA charge by Gujarat court

11 years in jail, Kashmir man returns home after acquitted of UAPA charge by Gujarat court
A 44-year-old Srinagar resident, Bashir Ahmad Baba, returned home on June 23, after spending 11 years in jail on terrorism charges. Bashir branded as the “Pepsi Bomber” by a section of the media. A lower court in Surat, Gujarat, acquitted him of all charges, including under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Bashir was detained in Gujarat back in 2010 on accusations of recruiting Muslim youths to send them to Pakistan for training and spread terrorist activities in India.
On June 19, a court in Gujarat’s Vadodara held that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges and furnish evidence against Baba.
