The legislation, which came into effect at midnight, was introduced after a toddler was killed by an airgun in 2005 in glasgow. People in england and wales can own the weapons without any kind of documentation. These are the guns that by january 1 will be illegal unless their owners have a licence. Already 11,000 people have applied for an Air Gun Certificate and anyone with a gun licence already can add air weapons to that. But thousands of Air Gun Owners have missed the deadline of october 31 to apply for a permit. Anyone who applied for a certificate before october 31 is ok because they applied early.
