করোনায় মানুষের পাশে না দাঁড়িয়ে বিএনপি মহামারির প্রথম দিকে ‘ফটোসেশন’ করেছে মন্তব্য করে তথ্যমন্ত্রী ও আওয়ামী লীগের যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক ড. হাছান মাহমুদ বলছেন, ‘দ্বিতীয় ঢেউয়ে তাদের দূরবীন দিয়েও খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না।’ 
শনিবার (৪ জুলাই) রাজধানীর ধানমনিন্ডতে আওয়ামী লীগ সভাপতি শেখ হাসিনার রাজনৈতিক কার্যালয়ে দলের ত্রাণ ও সমাজকল্যাণ উপকমিটির পক্ষ থেকে বিভিন্ন হাসপাতালের জন্য হাইফ্লো ক্যানুলাসহ করোনা সুরক্ষা সামগ্রী বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে এই আহ্বান জানান তিনি।
করোনাকালীন সময়ে মানুষের জন্য আওয়ামী লীগের কর্মযজ্ঞ তুলে ধরে ড. হাছান বলেন, ‘প্রথম দফায় সারাদেশে লাখ লাখ মানুষকে স্বা্স্থ্য সুরক্ষা সামগ্রী বিতরণ করা হয়েছে। ১ কোটি ২৫ লাখ মানুষের কাছে খাবার পৌঁছে দেওয়া হয়েছে। সবমিলিয়ে ২ কোটি মানুষের কাছে খাদ্য সহায়তা পৌঁছে দেওয়া হয়েছে। এছাড়া বাংলাদেশের অন্য কোনো রাজণৈতিক দল মানুষের পাশে থাকেনি।’
তিনি বলেন, ‘বাংলাদেশে অনেক স্বেচ্ছাসেবী প্রতিষ্ঠান, এনজিও আছে। সেই এনজিওগুলো ১০ জনকে কিছু দিয়ে সেটির ছবি তুলে সুন্দর করে দেখায়। সেগুলো আবার বিদেশে বিভিন্ন দাতা সংস্থার কাছে পাঠায়। তাদের কেউ কেউ টকশো’তে কথা বলে সরকারের সমালোচনা করে।’
‘এই সমস্ত সংগঠন যারা করোনার আগে এবং করোনাকালীন সময়ে সরকারের সমালোচনায় ব্যস্ত থাকে তাদের কাউকে এখন আর খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। কিন্তু তাদের সমালোচনা বন্ধ হয়নি।’
তথ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘বিএনপিসহ তার মিত্রদের করোনার প্রথম দফায় কিছু ফটো সেশন করতে দেখা গেছে। এখন সারাদেশে দূরবীন দিয়েও তাদের খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। অন্যদিকে আওয়ামী লীগের নেতাকর্মীরা প্রথম ঢেউয়ের মতো দ্বিতীয় ঢেউতেও মানুষের পাশে আছে। এই কাজ করতে গিয়ে হাজার নেতাকর্মী করোনায় আক্রান্ত হচ্ছে। অনেক সংসদ সদস্য করোনায় আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন, মারা গেছেন। যা অন্য কোনো দলের ক্ষেত্রে হয়নি।’
‘বিএনপি নেতারা এখন শুধু খালেদা জিয়ার স্বাস্থ্য নিয়ে কথা বলছেন। খালেদা জিয়াকে বিদেশ পাঠানো নিয়ে কথা বলছে। দেশের মানুষের স্বাস্থ্য নিয়ে তাদের কোনো চিন্তা আছে বলে মনে হয় না। আওয়ামী লীগ থেকে অনেক রাজনৈতিক দলের শেখা উচিত, বলের আওয়ামী লীগের এই যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক।
তিনি বলেন, ‘জনগণের পাশে থাকতে গিয়ে আওয়ামী লীগের কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির ৫ নেতা করোনায় আক্রান্ত হয়ে মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন। কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির বেশিরভাগ সদস্য করোনায় আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন। অনেকে একাধিকবার আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন। সারাদেশে প্রায় ১ হাজার নেতা-কর্মী করোনায় আক্রান্ত হয়ে মারা গেছেন, এরপরও আওয়ামী লীগের নেতাকর্মীরা মানুষের পাশে আছে।’
অনুষ্ঠানে আওয়ামী লীগের যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক আ ফ ম বাহাউদ্দিন নাছিম, সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক সাখাওত হোসেন শফিক, ত্রাণ ও সমাজকল্যাণ সম্পাদক সুজিত রায় নন্দি, স্বাস্থ্য ও জনসংখ্যা বিষয়ক সম্পাদক বেগম রোকেয়া সুলতানা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
