Juan Archuleta will make the first defense of his bantamweight championship against Sergio Pettis in the main event of Bellator 258 on Friday night in Uncasville, Connecticut. That's the fight most prominently displayed on the event's promotional poster, but until last week a different bout on the card was drawing all of the attention. It seemed that the whole MMA world couldn't wait to see the power-packed light heavyweight co-main event between Yoel Romero and Anthony "Rumble" Johnson.

Five things we learned from Jake Paul's weekend war with the MMA world

Peace was never going to be an option this weekend.
With Jake Paul and his legion of social media sycophants bearing down on our precious MMA bubble, much of the hardcore fanbase was up in arms over the possibility that Paul’s freakshow fight with Ben Askren would overshadow a compelling UFC Vegas 24 main event featuring top middleweight contenders Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum, and a strong Bellator card headlined by a pair of light heavyweight grand prix bouts.
The Triller Fight Club event undoubtedly drew broad interest from a variety of demographics, but for fight fans who were judicious with their time and chose not to indulge in all three events, here’s a quick rundown of the storylines that played out on Friday and Saturday.

Bellator 257 and UFC Fight NIght: Whittaker vs. Gastelum were this weekend and featured some good fight and a lot of decisions. Let’s get to the rundown.
Bellator 257
GOOD- Veta Arteaga vs. Desiree Yanez
The first round was really close, as they both landed a lot of shots. I leaned Yanez but Arteaga looked good in there as well. Yanez did get a late takedown, though. Round two saw Arteaga drop Yanez early with a big punch, then got a takedown a little later. Unfortunately, she also hit Yanez with an illegal knee to a downed opponent and had a point deducted from her. The third round saw Yanez get a takedown but Arteaga started tagging her with punches. This was a really close fight, a tough one to score. I thought it would be a draw but Arteaga won by majority decision, good win for her.

Bellator 256 and UFC Fight Night: Vettori vs. Holland were both this past weekend. Let’s get to the rundown.
Bellator 256
GOOD/BAD- Goiti Yamauchi vs. Dan Moret
Moret drops Yamauchi in the first round but he’s right back up. They go to the ground and Yamauchi keeps trying to get the submission. The second round sees Yamauchi get a takedown and starts trying for the submission. Moret lands a few decent strikes in the third round but it’s not enough and Yamauchi gets the split decision victory from the judges. Good win for Yamauchi.

This is the Bellator 256 live blog for Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida 2, the light heavyweight headliner for Friday’s fight card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
The Bader-Machida rematch serves as the opening quarterfinal bout of the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix. All tournament bouts will be contested over five rounds.
Bader seeks to avenge a December 2012 loss to Machida when both were contenders in the UFC. Machida defeated Bader by second-round KO in their first meeting.
This will be Bader’s first fight since losing the Bellator light heavyweight title to Vadim Nemkov in August. Bader still currently holds Bellator’s heavyweight title.

Anthony Johnson excited for new beginning with Bellator: 'We can compete with the UFC'

Anthony Johnson competed in three divisions for the UFC, so he’s as qualified as anyone to assess its roster even after joining a promotional rival.
Across two separate stints with the UFC from 2007-2012 and 2014-2017, Johnson signed on for fights at 170 pounds, 185 pounds, and 205 pounds (the middleweight bout with Vitor Belfort was a one-off that Johnson actually missed weight for by 11 pounds, a UFC record up until this past Saturday when Rafael Alvescame in 11.5 pounds heavy for a featherweight bout). Johnson was a budding contender at welterweight before issues with making the 170-pound limit eventually forced a move to the light heavyweight division, where he twice competed for a UFC championship.
