Matawalle to police: Carry out Buhari's order -- shoot anyone wielding AK-47 rifle

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Matawalle said only personnel of law enforcement agencies should bear arms.
The governor said anyone found to be in illegal possession of firearms should be “should be shot on the spot”.

He said his administration will support the security agencies with the necessary logistics to discharge their duties.
“The Zamfara State Police and other government security agencies are to effectively implement the Presidential order to shoot on sight at bandits, persons or group of people seen with Ak-47 or any weapons,” the governor said.

Security operatives have foiled an attack by bandits by killing an unspecified number of them and recovering 300 cattle in Zamfara State.
Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle disclosed this on Sunday via Twitter, adding that the operation was led by the state Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs.
Matawalle also shared photos showing the cattle recovered which were rustled by the bandits at Kuraje near Rijiyar Tsakar Dawa in Guasau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“A moment ago, I was informed about an operational success recorded by the Hon. Commissioner for Security & Internal affairs. He led a team of security forces on a joint patrol and neutralised a gang of bandits who rustled a herd of over 300 cattle at Kuraje near Rijiyar Tsakar Dawa in Gusau LG,” his tweet read.

Matawalle noted that the bandits had rustled a herd of over 300 cattle at Kuraje near Rijiyar Tsakar Dawa in Gusau LGA.
The governor, in a series of tweets on Sunday accompanied by pictures showing recovered cattle, said a team of security operatives led by the state commissioner for security and internal affairs carried out the recovery operation.
He said that the recovered cattle have been returned to the owners, while assuring residents of the commitment of his administration to restore peace in the state.

Zamfara is among the states in the northern part of the country worst-hit by the activities of bandits.

Nearly 300 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped last week by terrorists have been released.
The governor of the state of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, says that all the girls were released and that no ransom had been paid, the Associated Press reports.
“Today, we have received the children who were under captivity since Friday. I initiated a peace accord which yielded a positive result. No ransom was paid to anyone. I insisted that we were not going to give anything to any of them,” Matawalle told the news agency on Tuesday.

The abducted students of Government Secondary School Jangebe have been released. This was announced by the Zamfara State Governor Dr Bello Matawalle early on Tuesday morning.
He said on Twitter: ” It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe.”
