A passing train appears to be the cause of a brush fire that broke out Monday afternoon on the north side of Bend. Bend Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a small outside fire in the area of Robal Lane & Nels Anderson Rd. According to the news release: Initial reports were a small fire near the railroad tracks. While en route, additional calls came in a rapidly growing brush fire on the east side of the railroad tracks in this area. Bend Fire & Rescue is placing its new Pierce Ladder Truck into service next week and is inviting the community to attend the celebration and ceremony. This 107-foot ladder truck will respond to calls in the City of Bend, the Rural Fire District, and surrounding communities when needed. It will be replacing the current American La France ladder truck which has been seen service for over 19 years and has reached the end of its service life. Deschutes County District Attorney's office released additional information regarding the murder arrest of a Bend man. According to the news release: On June 7, 2022, 53-year-old Glen Allan Ely was found deceased in his apartment located at 2027 NE Daggett Lane in Bend. He was found by firefighters who entered his apartment to fight a fire. The Board of Directors for the Bend Park and Recreation District discussed a recent tragic accident at the Bend Whitewater Park and accepted a reopening plan for the surf wave at the June 7 public meeting. Following the accident that occurred on April 30, the surf wave at the Bend Whitewater Park has been flattened for a thorough evaluation.
