.- Six early-career artist-filmmakers have been selected for the fourth edition of Film London’s FLAMIN Fellowship scheme, a development programme offering mentoring, seed finance and professional development alongside access to audiences, curators and established artist advisors.
Taking vastly different approaches to the moving image, the selected artists utilize hybrid documentary, performance, 3D world-building, puppetry, collage, archival footage, text and poetry within their varied work. Projects supported through this round of The Fellowship explore bold and diverse themes, offering insights into the mythical landscapes of Ireland and North Africa, queer counter-histories and rainbow capitalism, as well as Afro-Caribbean folklore. Later this month, Glasgow Short Film Festival will become the first UK cinema event forced to go virtual for a second time as we pass the one year mark since COVID-19 began to run rampant through the UK population. The 2020 edition was due to take place 18 March, but it became clear it would be unsafe to do so; lockdown 1.0 went into force two days later.  ....

My New Statesman tote bag was a symbol of hope and belonging, and then it almost killed me
Ah, the irony! That I should be immolated by a bag advertising the very magazine that employs me!
How long have you been locked down for? I mean, when was the last time you left your home? I left two days ago, to go to Waitrose. I checked my watch before I left and checked it when I got back and I found I’d been gone for 13 minutes. It wasn’t a Big Shop, but then as I have only the one reusable bag, I can’t really do a Big Shop. It’s a tote from the 14th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, and I have it not because I ever went near the 14th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, but because the lady who sent me the binoculars (see “Down and Out”, 28 October) used it as part of the packaging. BFI FAN Exhibition Fund awards over £750k to UK exhibitors to support diverse programming and bring back audiences

Over 140 film exhibitors around the UK have received a share of £759,159 to boost cultural programming and activities to engage diverse audiences as lockdown restrictions ease. The BFI FAN Film Exhibition Fund supports activity to re-engage audiences with collective, big screen film experiences at film festivals, mixed arts venues, and both community and traditional cinemas around the UK. This particular strand of support has been made available via BFI‘s National Lottery funding to the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN). 
BFI FAN is a unique collaboration of 8 film hubs managed by leading film organisations across the UK, who each distribute the funding in their region or nation. The BFI FAN Film Exhibition Fund will enable FAN members to deliver a broad range of programming once ....
