KETCHIKAN (KDN) â The Alaska Press Club has recognized work published by three Ketchikan Daily News staff members in 2020.
Daily News Staff Photographer Dustin Safranek, Staff Writer Sam Stockbridge and Wire Editor Robert Rice were among the 2020 Alaska Press Club Award recipients announced this past Saturday.
Dustin Safranek earned awards in the Best Scenic Photo and Best Portirait categories.
Safranekâs âSnowy Summitâ image of Ketchikan hiker Ken Arriola ascending near the peak of Deer Mountain on March 7, 2020, was awarded second place in the all-media Best Scenic Photo category, to which a judge commented âMan, Alaska is beautiful!â
A seven-image collection of Safranekâs portraits of local families who were hunkering down during the first wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic was published in the April 4-5, 2020, edition of the Daily News, and earned the second-place award in the all-media Best Portrait category.
