Rawalpindi Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Vice Chairman Malik Abid Hussain has said that the PHA has turned all city parks into natural green places and making efforts to achieve the target of Prime Minister Imran Khan s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami initiative.
He said this while reviewing the development work being done for making the parks green during his visits to various parks.
He said that the Miyawaki forests on all available vacant pieces of land in and around the government schools, colleges and other buildings in different parts of the city are also being developed. ....

Biden's belated invitation to Pakistan

US President Joe Biden has belatedly invited Pakistan to participate in the much-touted virtual summit on global climate change that is scheduled for later this week. Some 40 world leaders had already secured their place at the table. Those from South Asia included India, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Pakistan was conspicuous by its absence. Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted his disapproval, noting that his government’s environmental. policies are driven by sustainability and the commitment to future generations.
To be sure, this was more than mere oversight. After all, Pakistan’s “Ten Billion Tree Tsunami” initiative, launched back in September 2018, had been well received around the world. The initiative in Phase-I is a four-year (2019- 2023) project implemented across Pakistan by the Ministry of Climate Change in partnership with provincial forest and wildlife departments; at a total cost of Rs125 billon. Yet that was seemingly not suffic ....

PESHAWAR: The environment, forestry and wildlife department came under fire in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday over failure to control hazardous emissions and unsafe disposal of chemical waste by factories and brick kilns, which, the opposition says, is harming environment and spreading serious diseases.
The opposition members criticised the department during the question hour of the session chaired by Deputy Speaker Mahmood Jan.
The chair referred several questions about the issue to the relevant standing committee of the house over the department’s failure to respond to them. ....
