Approximately 70 529th CSSB Soldiers left from Birdneck Elementary in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Jan. 28, 2024 to deploy to Poland in a federal active duty status and serve under the command of U.S. Army’s 3rd Division Sustainment Brigade.
The unit was alerted in 2022 to prepare for a possible mobilization and received in the fall of 2023 their official notification to deploy. Alfred Puryear, spokesperson for the Virginia National Guard, said the mobilization is not a direct response to current world events.
