Family Dollar cashier in Rome accused of pocketing cash

Police said Nadine M. Russell, 49, of Rome, worked at the Family Dollar store as a cashier, and between Dec. 15 and 19, she would ring up a sale at her register, void the sale, take the cash payment from the customer and then keep the money for herself. Police said Russell would still provide change and the merchandise to the customer.

Superhero: Organ donation a 'silver lining' for grieving Rome mother

After losing her son in a tragic automobile accident in Rome, Gina Richardson has found comfort in the silver lining: her son's death helped save at least six lives. "The first thing that came to my mind was that Ty always wanted to be a superhero. And what greater gift than to donate organs, and you really are a superhero," said Richardson in a recent interview with the Daily Sentinel for National Donate Life Month. "You save people's lives. But the ultimate sacrifice was his. He did bring six people home for Christmas."

'Socks for Seniors' collections at First Source locations as credit union marks Leap of Kindness Day

Leap of Kindness Day involves spending the Feb. 29 leap year day performing an act of kindness, company officials said. First Source is doing "Socks for Seniors," and collecting non-slip socks at each of their six branch locations. The collections began on Tuesday, and all of the socks will be collected on March 1 and delivered to nursing homes in the Mohawk Valley.
