Three Wichitans killed in Mississippi plane crash A National Transportation Safety Board team was in Hattiesburg, Miss on Thursday, examining the site of an airplane crash that killed four people, including three Wichitans. The NTSB will be on-scene the next several days, said Alex Lemishko, a NTSB senior air safety investigator, during a news conference Thursday. We will be examining the machines, the environment, the pilot those sorts of things. It s very preliminary to speculate as to the cause right now and the investigation; as far as the NTSB is concerned, there will be a preliminary report published within 15 days, Lemishko said.

(WDAM) - The Pine Belt is mourning the loss of a man who was active in the Hattiesburg veteran community. Retired Army Col. Ken Smith died Monday at the age of 81. Smith served on active duty and in the National Guard as well. He was a decorated helicopter pilot in Vietnam and commander of various military units in Mississippi while in the Guard. Smith was an active member of VFW post 3036 and had served the post in numerous leadership positions.
