Abuse of Tribal police alleged in Cherokee Nation

UPDATE: Dist 2 Tribal Council candidate charged with accepting illegal contribution

TAHLEQUAH – Bobby Slover, the losing Dist. 2 candidate in the Cherokee Nation’s July 24’s runoff race, was charged prior to the election with accepting an illegal campaign contribution. The CN Attorney General’s Office filed the charge July 21, contending that Slover, 63, of Tahlequah, “unlawfully and knowingly” accepted a $1,000 campaign donation from a legal entity, which is prohibited. The tribe’s Election Commission rescheduled a July 29 hearing for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2 instead to address the attorney general’s accusation against Slover. The special meeting will be held inside the EC office at 17763 S. Muskogee Ave. According to the CN Election Code, candidate contributions “may only be made by individual natural persons.”
