We began by eliminating cash bail so people are not detained simply because they couldn’t afford it. We created the Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force to change the culture of violence against women. We created a juvenile diversion program to treat kids like kids and prevent them from entering a system so often considered a maze with no exit. You tell us what the government code is? gary. i asked him a question. could he answer? jeff, go ahead and then we ll lay out what 1029 is. right. the problem is that under the law in every criminal trial the prosecution has a duty to provide the defense with evidence of convictions of any witness and that includes police officers and what we just learned is that there were officers who were convicted and this evidence was not being provided. this was not something that is governed by the government code. this is something that the constitution requires that the united states supreme court says must be provided in every criminal trial. are you talking about the brady policy, gary? no. i m talking about 1029 of the government code which prevents any citizen of the state of california being a police officer has ever been convicted of a felony. you cannot be convicted of a felony and be a police officer in the state of california. it s that simple. gary, where you re wrong i ....
That s not what s going on here. he says he has evidence. tell me where that proof lies? what mr. adachi is talking about is now because the district attorney does not have a brady policy, the department has gone back to 1985 and they are looking through the files of officers for any transgression that could possibly be elevated to the level of a brady violation. i would guess we have no more than five or six officers that have ever had a sustained complaint of perjury or any sort of prosecution for perjury or lying. that s just simply not what s going on here. mr. adachi is misportraying the truth here. in addition to that when you see what s at stake with regard to all these cases, what s happened at the crime lab, allegations of corruption there and then talking about the backgrounds of police officers involved in these cases, i mean, we re talking about hundreds and hundreds of cases, possibly bad ....
