In his Sept. 30 article in the Daily Bee (“More weather extremes and El Niño”), Randy Mann lists and discusses some of this year's weather anomalies. “Weather patterns have been changing and becoming more extreme across the globe, especially this year. We've seen big heatwaves in Europe along with flooding rains.”

I’ll never forget him. I had some good times with him, and I also got to witness some of the more crazy aspects of his personality, like when he dumped all the rotting blood from The Blood Show out the door of the Reese Palley Gallery on Prince Street, stinking up the block for days. I got to see him in rage and in unstoppable laughter.

In 1971, a friend hired me to photograph the Everson Museum’s newly appointed director. I’d never seen the new art museum or met an art museum director, so I was unsure what to expect. Ushered into his austere skylit corner office in the I. M. Pei-designed art museum, I stood awkwardly in front of his desk, waiting for him to look up from signing some papers on his desk. Time moved slowly. I shifted my weight from foot to foot.
