Every week, Mansion Global poses a tax question to real estate tax attorneys. Here is this week’s question.
Q. We have owned a condo in the Yaletown neighborhood of Vancouver for 15 years. We use it for the winter months, and now after 15 years of ownership, we must sell or rent it because of increased taxes. I have a disability, are there exemptions available to me based on my situation?
A. There are two taxes such a home is likely to incur: Vancouver’s Empty Homes Tax and British Columbia’s Vacancy and Speculation Tax.
