When Nikolai Dedok, a prominent Belarusian protester and self-identified anarchist, was arrested last November, he was found with the help of advanced facial recognition technology used by the country’s security services.  
The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs discovered Dedok’s whereabouts through the use of software called Kipod, according to an investigation by By Pol, a Telegram channel run by defected Belarusian law enforcement officials. He had been hiding in a safe house in the village of Sasnovy, but security officials tracked him down through a female acquaintance. Using cameras operating in the Minsk metro, which fed into the Kipod platform, officials surveilled the woman and found Dedok s hiding place.  ....
