We all love a thick, juicy burger every once in a while, but when searching for a lighter meal, the Burger Stand still has you covered. The restaurant, 2833 S.W. 29th St., which recently relocated to Brookwood Shopping Center from College Hill, gives its customers the option of transforming any of its delicious beef burgers, chicken or fish sandwiches into a house salad. It s the best of both worlds, right? You can still enjoy a burger while getting in a healthy serving of greens. We chose The Classic burger, which comes topped with Vermont cheddar, tomato and onions. The burger arrives on top of The Burger Stand s house salad mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, red onions and a roasted garlic herb vinaigrette. ....
Lecompton residents Troy and Vickie Clark never expected to make a business out of their love for wine. We ve always been one of those couples that goes to all the little wineries when we go on vacation, Vickie said. And until eight or nine years ago, that was the extent of it. Then, the couple took a trip to Niagara Falls. We probably went to 25 wineries while we were up there, Vickie said. During their travels, the pair decided to take their own crack at wine making, and upon returning home, they established a small operation in their basement. We started making wine from kits, Vickie said, and then, branched into recipes and just kind of went from there. ....
With a restaurant moving in and the expansion of two existing businesses, southwest Topeka s Brookwood Shopping Center has some notable changes in store. Brookwood, which started more than 60 years ago as a single building, has grown into a strip mall that includes close to three dozen businesses. And two of those businesses Linen Tree & Co., at 2841 S.W. 29th, and SoulFire Nutrition, just next door are shaking things up this spring. In addition, The Burger Stand, which was formerly located in Topeka s College Hill neighborhood, is moving into the Brookwood restaurant space at 2833 S.W. 29th. That storefront has been home in the past to Boss Hawg’s Barbeque & Catering Co., Pigskin s Sports Bar and, most recently, 4 Guys Bar & Grill. ....
