Owning a home provides security that no amount of rental law cannot. The trouble is that house prices do not reflect the cost of owning a home. They reflect the cost of the expected medium-term capital gains (post bright-line). It wasn t a problem when they reflected the expected gains upon retirement and downsizing, but now who honestly expects to be in that house for thirty years?
