It’s hard to find diapers, stained glass lamps, vintage toys and ceramic trinkets all in one place, but that’s what Habitat for Humanity is for. For 13 years, Bucks County’s Habitat chapter has operated its Chalfont ReStore, selling used furniture, clothing, homegoods, appliances and more. But the 22,500-square-foot space just got an upgrade, nearly doubling in size. ReStore is moving to 539 Jacksonville Road in Warminster, a 40,000-square-foot building one of the largest ReStores in the country with a larger parking lot and “more visible” storefront, said Bucks County ReStore Director BJ Breish. Breish, who has worked with Habitat for about seven years, oversees both the new Warminster site, as well as the second Bucks County ReStore in Middletown. He said the move from Chalfont, which was announced in early April, is a response to the store’s popularity and inability to physically accommodate its customers. ....
The need for shelter from the cold comes regardless of the pandemic. But with the coronavirus still ever present, the volunteers needed to run Bucks County s Code Blue emergency shelter have been harder to find. Nonprofit Advocates for Homeless & Those in Need, which runs the night time shelter at Calvary Baptist Church in Bristol Borough, says COVID has taken its toll on its volunteer ranks this winter and officials have seen fewer come out to help. AHTN volunteer coordinator Crystal Myers said last week the shelter barely had enough volunteers to open its doors for seven consecutive nights when temperatures dropped to 26 degrees or lower. ....
