Murchison, St Arnaud water services may be siphoned away from Tasman

However, the Government says it “remains interested” in continuing discussion with local government and iwi/Māori most affected by the proposed boundary choices – the Taranaki region, the Hauraki Gulf and the South Island, in particular.
“Whether there should be a single entity covering the whole of the South Island, or instead take an approach that uses the Ngāi Tahu takiwā [area],” the Government information says. ....

Environment Minister David Parker has released the first draft of the proposed Natural and Built Environments Act that will replace the Resource Management Act 1991.
He says the release of an exposure draft through a select committee inquiry is a way to test and improve the contents of the Bill before it goes into the formal Parliamentary process.
A second select committee process will be held when the full Bill is introduced to Parliament in early in 2022.

The first draft of one of the new laws to replace the much-criticised outdated Resource Management Act is out, vaunted by its minister as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get it right.
David Parker, Environment Minister, said the Natural and Built Environments Act draft would go to Parliament, then a select committee inquiry.
The draft law is now available on the Ministry for the Environment website.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get this right. The RMA takes too long, costs too much and hasn t protected the environment, he said. ....

The EMA says the proposed Natural and Built Environments
Act is tracking in the right direction but there is still
much work to be done in replacing the outdated Resource
Management Act (RMA).
EMA Head of Advocacy and
Strategy, Alan McDonald, says: The new Act is the first of
three proposed to replace the current RMA and this exposure
draft is an important and welcome first step in repealing
and reforming our planning and environmental
legislation.
