Vic government launches its own National Business Event Program

The Victorian State Government is offering grants of up to $25,000 for business events held in Melbourne, in a bid to encourage interstate travel into the city and get cash running through the events supply chain again.
Administered by the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), the National Business Event Program funding initiative is intended to help business organisers cover the costs of hosting an event, with 50% of the funds available upfront, before the event starts.
The cash can be put towards venue hire, accommodation, transport and other costs.
Detailed eligibility criteria for the scheme has not been released, but events must be held in Melbourne before December 2022. ....

Tasmania’s tourism operators, hotels, caravan parks and restaurants are set for a rush of tourists as part of a new $1.2 billion support package from the Morrison Government.
Assistant Minister for Industry Development Jonno Duniam said 800,000 half-priced airfares would be provided under the package to get Australians travelling and supporting tourism businesses.
“Discounts will be offered on tens of thousands of fares per week across an initial 13 key tourism regions, including Launceston, Devonport and Burnie,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.
“We know that when $1 is spent on a ticket, $10 is spent on the ground, which will give Tasmania’s economy the boost it needs as it recovers. ....

After much anticipation, the federal government has finally released the details of its new $1.2 billion support package for Australia’s tourism industry.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that while Australia’s economy had recovered 85 per cent of its fall from COVID-19, the next step in the government’s National Economic Recovery Plan would target the businesses, workers and regions still doing it tough.
Morrison said the package’s mix of half-price airline tickets, cheap loans for businesses and direct support to keep planes in the air, and airline workers in their jobs, would be a bridge to a more normal way of life for Aussies. ....
